Dear Sony customers,
Thank you for using Sony products and your continuous support.
DualDisc is a new two-sided disc product introduced by the music industry. DualDisc mates DVD recorded material on one side with digital audio material on the other side. The DVD side of the DualDisc complies with DVD standard, while the audio side does not meet the technical specifications to be called a "Compact Disc Digital Audio".
When you use the DualDisc with Sony products, please take note of the following. Please contact Sony 24-hour technical support hotline at 2389-3202 for enquiries. You may contact distributors or retail shops of DualDisc for details when purchasing the product.
About DualDisc
1. Isn't DualDisc a CD?
The audio side of the DualDisc does not meet the technical specifications to be called a "Compact Disc Digital Audio". Therefore, DualDisc does not have the logo of CD.
2. Will DualDisc play on Sony's DVD players/ DVD recorders or DVD drives?
As the audio side of the DualDisc does not meet the Compact Disc Digital Audio technical specifications, it is not guaranteed that the audio side can play on or be compatible with Sony's DVD players/ DVD recorders or DVD drives of personal computers. The DVD video content on the DVD side of the DualDisc will play on, and be compatible with Sony's DVD players/ DVD recorders or DVD drives of personal computers, but these devices do not support the DVD Audio format and the DVD audio content found on the DVD side of the DualDisc.
3. Will the DualDisc play on Sony's CD players or CD drives?
As the audio side of the DualDisc does not meet the Compact Disc Digital Audio technical specifications, it is not guaranteed that the audio side can play on or be compatible with Sony's CD players or CD drives of personal computers. Sony's CD players and CD drives of personal computers were designed to meet the Compact Disc Digital Audio specifications. Since the DualDisc is a two sided disc mating DVD recorded material on one side and digital audio material on the other side, the DVD side of the DualDisc may be scratched or abraded when played on a Sony's CD player.
4. Will Sony modify my DVD players/DVD recorders, CD players or notebook PC's drives to play DualDisc?
The DVD players, DVD recorders, CD players and drives manufactured by Sony were designed to meet the Compact Disc Digital Audio and DVD Forum specifications. Since the audio side of the DualDisc does not meet the Compact Disc Digital Audio specifications, Sony is not in a position to modify its players or drives to allow them to play back this new type of disc.
