Why can't the Smart Capture software be started?
SmartCapture cannot be started and the following error messages appear when a Memory Stick or Flash Memory Card is inserted into the PC card slot after starting Windows.
Err Msg: Audio Capture Device [Ess AudioDrive Record (220)] is not found.
Err Msg: Failed to initialize the camera. Check if other applications are using the camera.
Currently, the two types of causes below are found. See the method below for each cause:
Situation A. When a flash memory card was inserted into a PC card slot:
Situation B. When 2.3 MB or more of video memory was used in dual display mode (when an external monitor is connected):
Method to avoid cause Situation A
This symptom can be cleared if any of the three methods below is taken when a PC card such as a flash memory card is inserted into a PC card slot.
1. Insert the PC card only when the power of the system is turned off.
2. If the card was inserted after Windows® is started, please restart the system with the card inserted.
3. Set Input/Output of ES1879 Plug and Play AudioDrive to 220 manually.
Procedure
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel and double-click System icon.
2. Click the Device Manager tab, and then click + next to Sound, video and game controllers.
3. Click ES1879 Plug and Play AudioDrive to select and then click Properties.
4. The Properties dialog of ES1879 Plug and Play AudioDrive appears. Click the Resource tab.
5. Clear the Use the automatic setting checkbox, and click Input/Output Range shown under Interrupt Request 11, and then click Change Setting. Set the value to 0220-022F.
6. Click OK, click Yes and click Close on the dialogs that appear to complete the setting process.
Inserting a memory stick or flash memory card into a PC card slot of PCG-C1 after Windows® is already started will change the system resource allocations. For this reason, this error occurs.
Method to avoid cause B
When 2.3 MB or more of video memory was used in dual display mode (when an external monitor is attached):
SmartCapture may not be launched due to the limited amount of the resources left in the video memory.
For example:
1. LCD (VAIO): 1024x480 16bpp, external CRT: 800x600 16bpp = 1897.5KB
2. LCD (VAIO): 1024x768 16bpp, external CRT: 800x600 16bpp = 2474.5KB
