Unable to turn off the computer.
I cannot turn off my notebook computer from Windows or the power/suspend button. The computer is in the state that the power cannot be turned off.
On the [Shut Down Windows] menu of Windows, when I select [Shut down] and then click [Yes], the computer stops at the [Shutting down Windows] (or [Ready to turn off the computer]) screen.
* I cannot open the [Shut Down] window.
* I cannot turn off the computer with the power/suspend button.
Take the right solution for each situation.
1. On the [Shut Down Windows], if you select [Shut down] and then click [Yes], the computer stops at the Shutting Down Windows or Ready to turn off the power screen.
Press the Esc key.
If the computer does not respond, turn off the computer with the power/suspend button. When the above message is displayed, if you turn off the computer forcibly, your data may not be damaged.
2. Unable to open the [Shut Down Windows].
Press Alt + F4 at the same time a few times. If the [Shut Down Windows] appears, select [Shut down] on the screen, and then click [Yes].
If the [Shut Down Windows] does not appear, press Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time. When the task list appears, click [Shut down].
If you cannot perform the above operations, turn off the computer with the power/suspend button.
In this case, your data may be damaged. In addition, Scandisk may be started or Windows may be started in Safe mode when you restart the computer.

3. Unable to turn off the computer with the power/suspend button.
For PCG-N505x and PCG-Cxx, press the reset button.

Location of the reset button:
PCG-N505x: At the lower center of the rear side of the computer. A 1.5-mm-diameter hole.
PCG-Cxx: At the lower center of the rear side of the computer. A 1-mm-diameter hole.
In this case, your data may be damaged. In addition, Scandisk may be started or Windows may be started in Safe mode when you restart the computer.

If the above does not solve the problem, disconnect the AC adapter and the battery.

In Windows 98, if the operating system is communicating with peripherals or network, the power cannot be turned off. Some device drivers of peripherals may not be able to be terminated forcibly by the operating system. For this reason, the computer may not be turned off automatically.
