When you cannot capture images from your DV device, check the following items judging from the situation.
1) Check the setting of the DV device and VAIO.
2) Check the tape you use.
3) Check the setting of DVgate Motion.
1) Check the setting of the DV device side and VAIO side.
- Check the setting of your DV device.
- Are you using a non- Sony DV device?
- Is your camera in the video mode?
- Is the recording mode the SP (standard play) mode or the LP (long play) mode? (When you recorded images in the LP mode, you capture the images with the camera that you used for recording.) * The playback of images recorded in the LP mode is guaranteed only with the recorded device. Therefore, when capturing is tried with other device, images, being displayed in mosaic, cannot be properly captured sometimes.
- Is the DV device connected to your PC properly? (If you have more than one DV cords, try another cord for connecting them as well.) Check the setting of your VAIO.
- As capturing puts loads on CPU and other components, finish all the other currently running application software. When some software such as a printer utility, virus check software, etc. are executed, finish them as well.
- Combine free space of the hard disk (Drive D). Select [System Tools] and execute Disk Defragmenter.
- Set virtual memories at a larger value than that of the memory implemented to your PC, and make its maximum value equal to the minimum value. Press [Virtual Memory] button on [Performance] tab in System Properties.
- Stop using the network adapter.
- Enable DMA transfer of the hard disk. Double click [GENERIC.IDE DISK TYPExx] of [Disk drives] in the [Device Manager], and tick [DMA] in the [Settings].
- Moving images cannot be saved to the compressed drive when they are captured with DVgate Motion. When the hard disk is used in the compressed status, images cannot be captured.
2) DV tape to use
- If images cannot be captured with a specific DV tape, the tape might be the cause of the problem. By specifying a capturing portion of the tape with markers of "IN" and "OUT", the problem sometimes does not occur again even in the case of the specific tape.
- When the problem occurs with the use of the tape on which images have been recorded on top of the previous ones several times, record images on a virgin tape which you just bought and check whether capturing is properly done or not.
- Is the time code displayed continuously? When the display of the time code flicks or breaks once in a while, it might sometime indicate that capturing is not carried out properly.
- When images are captured from DV device, capturing finishes at the time when the sound mode or the recording mode changes.
- Capturing at the very top of a tape sometimes fails.
- Copy-protected images cannot be captured.
3) Setting of DVgate Motion
- Check if the mode switch button points upward and the mode display window shows [DV->AVI].
- Press the [CAPTURE] button and check the setting in the [CAPTURE] dialog box. Try to change the place to save the file, to save it to a different file, to specify the saving directory and to enter another file name. Then execute capturing. Check if "Recover Lost Frames" is ticked or not.
- Check if the time code skips in between the markers of IN and OUT. Capturing will sometimes fail when there is an unrecorded portion or a break of sound, or when multiple discontinuous time codes exit on a single tape.
- Check capturing operation in the "Recover Lost Frames" status being ticked.
- Check the status where images cannot be captured. In the case of recapturing, delete the tick of "Recover Lost Frames" once and execute capturing. Tentatively, try capturing with deleting the tick of "Recover Lost Frames" but without executing "Recapturing due to failure of first capturing". When the capturing succeeds in this way, the problem might come from the tape.
