How to capture and edit a movie?

Capturing and editing a movie

Step 1: Preparation

1. Click Start and click All Programs -> Click to DVD -> Click to DVD.
2. Enter the name of DVD to be created.
3. Select a given theme from the Select a theme list box.
4. In the Select Type box, select the Video option and select a given picture quality.
3 types of image quality is available:
- High Quality (~ 60 minutes)
- Standard Play (~ 90 minutes)
- Long Play (~ 120 minutes)

If the Photo option has been selected and still image added, the recordable time changes.

5. Click Menu and click Settings on the displayed menu.
6. Refer to the following and establish the required settings.

- Settings
Location to store files -- The images captured from an external device and the files created during the creation of a DVD are temporarily stored to a hard disk drive. The location to store these files can be changed by clicking Browse and then specify a folder to store the files.
Aspect Ratio of the screen -- Specify the aspect ratio of the screen. Select either 4:3 or 16:9.
Note: Movies or movie files with aspect ratios different from what are shown here cannot be read.
Video Format -- The type of video signal system to be applied to the DVD can be changed.
Select NTSC or PAL.
Note: Movies or movie files in video modes different from what are shown here cannot be read.
Step Guide Animation -- The display on the screen is animated when the screen changes by clicking the operation step guide for Click to DVD.

After the settings are completed, click OK.


Step 2: To Capture a Movie

To capture a movie from a DV device, connect the DV device to the computer.
2 ways of capturing:
i. Capture a movie automatically from the beginning of the tape to the end - (Automatic Capture).
ii. Capture a fixed range manually - (Manual Control).

If Automatic Capture is used, proceed to A - Automatic Capture.
If Manual Control is used, proceed to B - Manual Capture.
To import external files, proceed to C - Import Movie Files.

A. Automatic Capture

1. Connect a DV device to the i.LINK terminal of the VAIO computer.
To connect a DV camera, select the video mode.
2. Click Capture Video.
3. Click DVD and click Automatic Capture.
Select the Rewind tape option. The tape will rewind to the beginning and the capture starts.
4. Click Capture.
Capturing of the movie starts and the first image of each clip is listed on the material tray.
One clip is equivalent to one chapter. Capturing of the images will end when the following occurs:
a. The tape does not contain any data for 10 seconds or longer (nothing is recorded)
b. The date information of the tape becomes older than that of the previously recorded images
c. The aspect ratio of the screen differs from what was selected on the Settings dialog box
d. The video mode differs from what was selected on the Settings dialog box

The clip of a movie being captured is displayed on the material tray during the capturing of the movie.
To stop the capture halfway, click Stop Capture. The playback of the DV device also stops.
Unnecessary clips can be deleted.

B. Manual Control

1. Connect a DV device to the i.LINK terminal of the VAIO computer.
To connect a DV camera, select the video mode.
2. Click Capture Video.
3. Click Manual Control.
4. Use the DV device control button on the window to show the image to be captured.
The image being played back appears on the monitor.

If the DV device is in the camera mode, the DV device control button is deactivated.

5. Click Capture
Capturing of the movie starts and the first image of each clip is listed on the material tray.
6. Click Stop Capture
Capturing of the movie stops.

Playback of the DV device continues even if Stop Capture is clicked.

7. Repeat Steps 5 to 7 to capture movies.

C. To import movie files stored in the computer

1. Click Capture Video and click Import.
2. Select a movie file to add and click Open.
3. The selected movie file is imported and the clip of the imported file is shown on the material tray.


Step 3: To Edit Movies

Editing of the movie should be done on the Edit Video window. Divide the clip to delete unnecessary scenes or sort them to change the order of playback.

A. To Divide Clips

1. Select a clip that to divide and playback the clip.
The image appears on the monitor. The image of the scene to be divided can also be displayed by sliding the slider.
2. Click Divide on the window showing the image to be divided.
The clip will be divided into 2 parts.
3. To delete unnecessary portions of the clip, divide the clip and move the unnecessary clip to Recycle Bin.

Note: If the divided clip lasts less than 1 second, a warning message appears. Press Yes and the clip is deleted.

B. To Combine Clips
Select a clip to combine on the left pane and click Combine selected clip with the next clip. Click on [<-- -->] between the clips to combine.

The combined clips become one chapter.

C. To rearrange the order of clips

i. Select the clip where the order is to be rearranged and click on the position where the clip is to be moved to, or
ii. Drag-and-drop the clip to the position where it is to be moved to.
