How to change the settings in virtual memory?
Please follow the steps below to change the settings in virtual memory:
A. In Windows 2000 Professional environment
1. Right-click the My Computer icon and click Properties.
2. In the System Properties windows, click the Advanced tab and click Performance Options.
3. Click Change in the Virtual memory section.
4. Select the hard disk drive to which Windows is installed (usually C:).
5. Enter a specific value in the Initial Size and Maximum size textbox. For optimum performance, we recommended the Initial Size(MB) to be the same value as the computer main memory (RAM size), for example, 128. The recommended Maximum size is set at 1.5 times the Initial size value, for example, 128 x 1.5 = 192.
Note:
The required size of virtual memory varies depending on your software. Check the operating conditions and recommended settings of your software, and then make the appropriate settings.
6. Click Set, and then click OK. Depending on the settings made, you may be required to restart your computer.
7. Click OK twice.
8. Restart the computer.
B. In Windows Me, Windows 98SE, Windows 98 and Windows 95 environment
1. Right-click the My Computer icon and click Properties.
2. Click the Performance tab and click Virtual memory.
3. Select Let me specify my own virtual memory.
4. Select the hard disk drive which Windows Operating System is installed from the Hard disk option list (usually C:).
5. Enter a specific value in the Minimum and Maximum textbox. For optimum performance, we recommended the Minimum(MB) value to be the same as the computer main memory (RAM size), for example, 128. The recommended Maximum value is set at 1.5 times the Initial size value, for example, 128 x 1.5 = 192.

The required size of virtual memory varies depending on your software. Check the operating conditions and recommended settings of your software, and then make the appropriate settings.
6. Click Yes to accept the changes.
7. Close all windows and restart the computer.

These files of pagefile.sys in Windows 2000, and win386.swp in Windows Me, Windows 98SE, Windows 98 and Windows 95 are the files used by virtual memory.
