What is MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play) mode?

What is MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play) mode?

MDLP (MiniDisc Long Play) is an encoding method where two modes are offered. The LP2 Stereo playback mode where stereo recording is possible at twice as long as the standard recording time of the MiniDisc, and the LP4 Stereo playback mode where stereo recording is possible at four times as long as the standard recording time of the MiniDisc.
LP2 mode is ideal for long time recording or playback of music whereas LP4 mode is ideal for recording meetings or compiling a large number of music tracks on a MiniDisc.
SP (Standard Stereo mode) mode is also available on NetMD Walkman and can mix tracks of different modes on one MiniDisc.

Note: Songs that are recorded in MDLP mode cannot be played back on non-MDLP MD devices.
