How can I use the Queue background data function?

This feature is available in Android versions 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0 and 5.1.
When queued, background data is sent at set intervals only. The queue background data option, which is available when you use STAMINA mode, helps you save battery power when the screen is not active.

Different apps generate network (and data) requests with differing frequency. For example, news apps can generate four to six requests per hour while some social networking apps can generate one to four requests per hour. And location based apps tend to generate two or three requests per hour. Frequent requests of this kind rapidly drain the battery of your device because the radio has to move from an idle state to a connected state for each connection attempt.

When the screen is off, the Queue background data function queues the number of network connection attempts so that all network requests are sent together every 15 minutes. The time spent by the radio in idle state is maximised and the battery life is increased. The queuing of background data saves power both on LTE and 3G networks. This function does not apply to Wi-Fi® connections. It is enabled by default, but you can turn it off.

Android 5.0 or 5.1

To enable the queuing of background data

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Power Management.
3. Drag the slider beside Queue background data to the right.

Android 4.3 or 4.4

To enable the queuing of background data

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Power Management.
3. Mark the Queue background data checkbox.

Android 4.2

To enable the queuing of background data

1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
2. Find and tap Settings > Data Usage.
3. Tap the menu button (three vertical dots), then mark the Queue background data checkbox.
