Measures to Prevent the Recurrence of Xperia 1 VII Malfunctions and to Improve Quality

    We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to many of our customers due to occasional unexpected power-offs, restarts, and inability to power on Xperia 1 VII smartphones. Sincere apologies are also extended for the inconvenience caused by the lengthy exchange process and the delay in preparing replacement units for some customers.

     

    Following an investigation into the causes of these issues and implementation of measures to prevent their recurrence, sales will resume gradually starting on August 26, 2025.

     

    We recognize this matter as a serious issue and have conducted a comprehensive analysis of the causes. Based on the evaluation of this analysis, measures have been developed to prevent the recurrence of these issues. The Xperia brand is committed to pursuing and promoting manufacturing that meets higher quality standards through the following initiatives, which will allow all our customers to use our products with confidence and with peace of mind.
     

    1) Measures to prevent the recurrence of Xperia 1 VII malfunctions

    The cause of the malfunctions is attributed to issues in the circuit board manufacturing process, where the boards were affected by temperature and humidity, resulting in defects. To resolve this issue, the management standards for circuit board manufacturing have been revised, and additional processes have been implemented to appropriately control the effects of temperature and humidity. As a result, stable quality can be maintained during the circuit board manufacturing process, even when temperature and humidity conditions fluctuate.

     

    2) Improvement of quality control system for Xperia products

    Implementation of thorough inspections

    The processes similar to those associated with the cause of the Xperia 1 VII malfunctions, along with all settings that may impact functionality, have been thoroughly inspected and reviewed. An inspection system tailored to product functionalities and conditions has been established and is being implemented with the aim of strengthening quality control in the manufacturing of future models.
     

    Improvement of risk assessment system within the manufacturing process

    A new management system to improve verification and assessment of risks that may impact quality in the manufacturing process has been established. This management system has already been implemented for the replacement Xperia 1 VII units, as well as for products currently in production. This system will also be introduced for future manufacturing, and we will continue to make every efforts to achieve rigorous quality control.

     

    We have received strong feedback from many customers regarding this issue. We take each and every piece of feedback seriously, and are fully committed to delivering products that will restore the trust of our customers.
